AP Physics 1: Algebra-Based is the equivalent to a first-semester college course in algebra-based physics. The course covers Newtonian mechanics (including rotational dynamics and angular momentum); work, energy, and power; and mechanical waves and sound. It will also introduce electric circuits. Students interested in a deeper understanding of Physics and/or students planning to pursue a career in medicine, the sciences or engineering should enroll in this course. Upon completion of this course, students interested in medicine and some sciences should consider taking AP Physics II, which is also algebra-based and continues into fields not covered by Physics I including Thermodynamics, Electricity and Magnetism, and Modern Physics. Students interested in the non-life sciences, or engineering fields should consider taking AP Physics C, which is calculus-based, after AP Physics I.
PRE-REQUISITES: Physics OR Honors Chemistry OR Chemistry; Geometry
