COMMITTEE SYSTEM

TOPIC STATEMENT
a. Committee Selection A standing committee may be formed for each permissive function performed by the Council to serve for one year. A written description of the responsibilities and duties of the committees shall be approved by the Council. Council members may not serve on standing and ad hoc committees.  Teachers serving on standing committees shall be appointed by the principal, prior to their service and approved by the Council. Parents serving on standing committees shall be appointed by the Principal and approved by the Council. Standing committees shall report to the Council. Their actions shall be advisory and are not binding on the Council.
b. Ad Hoc Committee Ad hoc committees shall be formed to help complete specific tasks.  Once the task is completed, the committee shall be abolished.  Ad hoc committees shall be formed by the chairperson with approval by the Council.  The size of committees and representation shall be determined by the Council.
c. Chairperson Standing and Ad hoc committees shall select a chairperson and assistant chairperson from its membership.
 
d. Term Standing committees shall serve for the period beginning at appointment and ending June 30.  Ad hoc committees shall serve until they are abolished, not to exceed one year. 
e. Making                
Recommendations    
All committees shall use consensus as the primary method of making recommendations.  In the event consensus cannot be reached, the committee shall report to the Council the reasons.  All committees are subject to the Kentucky Open Records and Open Meetings Laws.
f. Quorum Two thirds (2/3) of the members of the standing committee must be present for the committee to make a recommendation.

Committee System Responsibilities

TOPIC STATEMENT
a. Budget Committee The budget standing committee is charged with supporting the development of the annual budgets.  Specific charges include:
                

1. Review fundraising efforts and develop both short-term and long-term objectives,

2. Develop a strategy to procure external funding through partnerships and grants,

3. Develop an equitable, comprehensive operational budget,

4. Analyze financial aspects of extra-curricular programming.

5. Other duties as assigned by the SBDM Council    

b. Communication

The communication committee is charged with ensuring an effective communication system that incorporates all stakeholders.  Specific charges include:

1. Collaboration with the technology committee to provide electronic updates on a regular basis.

c. Learning Delivery        
    Results

The learning delivery and results committee is charged with the development of policy support to maximize student achievement.  Specific charges include:

1. Ensuring the content taught is aligned with state standards.

2. Ensuring support programs are in place, such as Interventions, GT, ELL, ECS, and ESS.

3. Ensuring that accountability scores are analyzed and used as a planning tool.

4. Other duties as assigned by the SBDM Council

d. Climate

The school climate committee is charged with development of policy support to ensure a positive environment for students, faculty, parents, and the larger community.  Specific charges include:

1. Ensuring that Safe School policies are being implemented.

2. Assess the discipline code and make recommendations for refined implementation.

3. Assess the student handbook and make recommendations for refined implementation.

4. Analyze effective school surveys and make recommendations.

5. Other duties as assigned by the SBDM Council

e.  Technology

The technology committee is charged with assessing, supporting, and improving the use of technology as both an instructional and management resource.  Specific charges include:

1. Develop a three to five year comprehensive plan to address the needs of students.

2. Collaborate with the communication committee to ensure and foster growth in home-school relationships.

3. Develop and recommend a plan to distribute allocated funding.

4. Other duties as assigned by the SBDM Council
